If you are interested in distributed energy resources, please contact us first by calling our office at 608-647-3173.
WHAT IS IT?
Distributed Energy Resources (DER) are energy generation or storage technologies that allow you to produce and consume electricity on your own. Utilizing solar panels, wind, biomass energy, or battery storage you can have less reliance on the electric grid and generate your own renewable energy. REC supports DERs as a viable and sound means of meeting electric needs of various consumer groups.
Checklist
Review Technical Service Manual (TSM) and Interconnection Requirements of WI Electric Cooperatives.
Complete and submit Richland Electric Cooperative's Distribution Generation Application and Interconnection Agreement, along with a current certificate of insurance for the property, relevant site plans in pdf format, electrical one-line diagram in pdf format and specifications for the proposed project and equipment. The member will be invoiced for an application fee, which can be paid remotely via Smarthub, or directly in the office or mail. Richland Electric will review your plans from your application and notify you of any necessary changes or engineering studies, or will approve the project to proceed as planned.
Submit a completed certified inspection report to Richland Electric to document that the project has passed an inspection for any potential code issues.
After we have received payment for the interconnection fee, a Richland Electric Cooperative technician performs a test of the anti-islanding safety feature of the inverter, programs the meter for bidirectional real-time metering for DG applications, and documents system specifications and measurements for our records and reporting requirements.
Richland Electric Cooperative personnel will record documentation of the project specifications and process the remaining steps of the service order so that the member's account is structured for Distributed Generation.

- Proof of liability insurance.
- Anti-Islanding inverter.
- Labelled load break disconnect near meter.
- Inspection of system, programming of meter, and successful testing of anti-islanding by Richland prior to energizing system.
